EATING ON A BUDGET IDEAS FOR FOLKS LIKE ME. April 1, 2008. It is no april fool's joke. I can't afford to eat many things I used to. When you look at the price of things like eggs, bread, fruit, vegitables, and fruit, you find that paying for a 5 pound bag of potatos is not possible. So, I am buying them two at a time and paying plenty. Disregarding the health issues for now, it has come down to shoping one place for cheap canned goods, another place with inexpensive meat packaging, and to a 3rd place with lower cost imported fresh foods and fruits. If you don't like chicken or pork, you have to dig deep in your food money supply to eat beef. What kind of choices will there be if the cost of fuel gets so high that only the very wealthy can afford to pay? While growing your own food will most likely not begin to solve the problem, it may be better to get started now to hone your food growing skills and get used to making the operation of some kind of food growing system a part of your regular routine. Because everyone's circumstances are different, there can not be a single solution for us. However, there are enough ways to offset the cost or scarcity of food that I want to share with those willing to try. I also want to include your ideas and thoughts with others. The best way for me to do this is to set up a new website devoted to making it possible for people to supliment their diet with home grown food. Take those high priced potatoes for example, just save the peelings and plant them in 5 gallon buckets. Soon, you will have a mess of small, but good tasting potatoes with little care. Plans and examples of ways to grow your own food in places where traditional gardens are not possible for one reason or another is the primary goal of the new website. Some of the projects may be hydroponic while others may not be. Above all, your input will make the outcome better. chuck GO TO NEW EMEGENCY FOOD GROWING WEBSITE |
